2012 MTB Film Comp

Published: 15/09/2012

Nevis Range is delighted to announce the winners of the Nevis Range 2012 MTB Film Competition, which was judged by Stu Thomson of MTBCut.

First prize goes to Andrew Ashworth with his film entitled ‘Downhill at Nevis Range with Keir Copeland’. Andrew is presently located in Glasgow and is a regular visitor at the Mountain Bike World Cup event each year, and travelled to Fort Bill especially to film for the competition.

Andrew said “Nevis Range is such an amazing place, the scenery is beautiful, the locals are really friendly and the tracks are some of the best in the world. It was great working with Keir. He’s an amazing young rider and a natural in front of the camera. His local knowledge was priceless when filming and his attitude towards riding and filming is great. I loved filming at Nevis Range. It’s one of the best downhill courses in the world, coupled with some of the best scenery and facilities. It’s a film-makers dream.” He continued “Winning the competition means a lot to me. I’m so happy that all the work paid off, and we managed to beat the tough competition. As much as the prize is amazing, the best thing in my opinion is getting the film out to a wider audience and having it viewed by hundreds of people. I also can’t wait to have a day with MTBCut as I’ve looked up to them for years and love their work. My aspirations for the future are to continue making films and constantly progress, hopefully making a career out of it. I am looking to go to university to study film, and I am looking forward to see where it takes me.

Second prize goes to Ali Olivier and his film about the Scottish Championships held at Nevis Range in 2012.  Third prize was presented to 7 year old Daniel Parfitt, 7 years, his film tells about the Reasons I Love to Ride ... with help from mum and dad.

Ten entries were received in total and all entries are now posted on the Nevis Range Scotland youtube page in a 2012 MTB Film Comp playlist.

Marian Austin, Nevis Range MD commented, “We were delighted with the entries we received for the competition. You can see for yourself that the standard of films was extremely high so we were really pleased we’d persuaded Stu Thomson of MTBCut to judge the entries, as it was not a task we relished! The entries show the diversity of mountain biking available at Nevis Range … from a seven year old testing his skills on the Skills Loops … to Scottish riders and champions of tomorrow competing at the 2012 Scottish Championships … to the World Champions competing in the Fort William round of the MTB World Cup, held each June at Nevis Range.  And the winning entry shows just how inspiring these world class competitions can be for local riders who are lucky enough to be able to call the stunning Outdoor Capital of the UK their home, and Nevis Range their adventure playground!”

Nevis Range plans to run a similar MTB film competition next summer and during the winter 2012/13, a snowsports film competition will also run.
