1 day Avalanche Awareness Course 2013

Avalanche Awareness Courses 2013

This winter, the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) is running two, one-day "Avalanche Awareness" courses, based at Nevis Range on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 January 2013.

The courses are designed for proficient winter hill walkers wishing to increase their knowledge of snow and avalanches; learn which areas to avoid and improve their understanding of reports and forecasts. Each course will consist of an indoor introduction to avalanche theory followed by a practical session on the hill.

Participants need to be members of the MCofS.

The course is £40 for MCofS members.  Payment details on the MCofS website.

The MCofS Avalanche Courses are sponsered by Back Country Access and Anatom. Each course participant will be loaned a transceiver, shovel and probe to use during the course.

Stephen Softley attended one of our Avalanche Courses in 2011 and wrote this article which was published in Scottish Mountaineer.

Course participants may be interested in purchasing one of the pocket sized laminated Avalex Cards as an aide-memoire. These are for sale in our on-line shop shop-infoservice.asp at a cost of £3.50 to members.
